Death Squads Expected Soon At State Dept.
The Bush Administration continues to rearrange the deck chairs on its Titanic ship of state with the announced transfer back to the State Department of top spy wrangler John D. Negroponte. He will be leaving his most recent post as the head of the recently formed Directorate of Intelligence.
Negroponte, 67, a career ‘diplomat’ and Neocon fixer has had a series of jobs in the Bush Administration. Prior to Director of Intelligence he was the Ambassador to occupied Iraq, replacing Paul Bremer as ‘Our man in Iraq’ after the “handover” from the CPA, where he was instrumental in fomenting sectarian violence through his signature conflict resolution method, the formation and training of death squads.
Negroponte has had a long and distinguished career in the service of illegal wars including serving as the Permanent Ambassador to the UN helping the US procure an international fig leaf for Bush’s testy Iraq policy and as Proconsul to Honduras during the Reagan Administration’s bloody proxy war against the Sandanistas.
Negroponte is said to be excited about the opportunity to go ‘hands on’ in his new role as Chief Deputy to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and to be able to bring his unique brand of ‘Death Squad Diplomacy’ back home to the State Department.
If history is any precedent, the body count at State is about to take off. Count on more than a bit of career carnage and those pesky knocks in the night to follow soon. Note to Condie: Don’t answer the door!
Sources say Negroponte was frustrated in his post as Director of Intelligence managing such a large bureaucracy and is looking forward to some good old-fashioned wet work in the trenches at State. Look for any malcontents on Iraq policy and any other non-team players to start disappearing.
